2.03: "Vanished"

by Sammie

Tony is clipping his nails in the office. EWW.

KATE. Most people tend to their personal hygiene at home.
TONY. This bothers you?
KATE. No, what bothers me is that it doesn't bother me anymore.
TONY. I'm an acquired taste.
McGEE. Actually, it's more like the Stockholm syndrome. The emotional attachment to a captor formed by hostages are result of continuous stress and a need to cooperate for survival.

Helicopter in a crop circle. How exciting. (Yes, I was bored by the episode. Besides Kate looking annoyed as Gibbs and Tony drink her water and Gibbs' driving scaring McGee, there wasn't much here.)

Turns out Kate hates helicopters. Tony wants one - because they're "chick magnets". Tony, a "chick" just told you she hated helicopters. I also haven't met a female who heard a helicopter go by and went, "OOH! Helicopter!" unless she was five and equally intrigued by semi-trucks and baby rabbits.

There's a Marine helo sitting in a crop circle. While bagging and tagging and taking pictures, Tony adjusts himself in front of Kate, and she is furious. "I've had enough of your locker room mentality. I would be upset if someone I was dating - dating! - took such familiarities." I would, too. That's just gross.

Tony and Kate check out the pilot and copilot's place...turns out the copilot's there, and Kate gets caught. He has to drop her when Tony shows up with his gun.

Gibbs is questioning the co-pilot, and when he gets stonewalled, he slams a file down and seriously scares the hotshot. "Here's how it works, ace. I ask the questions, you give direct answers." Tony calls it TBI (truth by intimidation), and counts down...sure enough, the copilot starts blabbing about the pilot getting a call, and then not wanting to go out, and they separated.

Abby and McGee are squabbling about aliens AGAIN. Guess who believes and guess who doesn't. I think McGee could be a little more patient, but that's just me.

Kate starts to approach Daphne, the gas station's owner's daughter, but she can't talk right away; so Kate'll come back later.

Tony is telling McGee about the 1953 "Invaders from Mars" and about the little red x's on the necks of those who were taken over. One kid tries to tell his parents, and the camera pans around to their necks...with x's. TONY.

TONY. Whew. Scared of my parents for years after that.
McGEE. I'm sure the feeling was mutual. (Go McGee! Haha.)

There was a cabin fire around the time the pilot (Newell) and his helo up and poofed into thin air. Someone was inside...but no body. They find out from the county LEOs that there's a feud going on in Smoky Corners. People died of natural causes and "farm or hunting accidents". Sure, pard. "Hunting accident".

McGee is scanning a field with some kind of magnet detector - because Abby promised to show him her new tattoo (on her ankle) if he did. Turns out Tony hid an alien mask with a magnet underneath. I think it's funny. McGee is annoyed and tosses the mask out; Kate is unimpressed with Tony. "You are such a child!"

Abby has figured out who was in that cabin fire - it was Newell's biological brother. But his record said he had no siblings. Turns out Newell had a brother, Greg Sikes. In their parents' divorce, his mother got him, his father got Greg, and they got separated. He took his stepfather's name. Greg, in the meantime, was dating Daphne - and she got pregnant. Both Greg's father - and Greg - died in "hunting accidents".

Gibbs has figured out why they can't find Newell: he's a Marine. He's using his Marine abilities to evade capture.

Kate is not in the mood, and Tony goes, "Do I detect a little PMS?" Kate is not happy. Tony, sweetheart, you do NOT tell or ask a woman something like that unless your intention is to piss her off. Maybe McGee needs to hand his Redbooks over to you.

McGee is in the passenger's side as Gibbs drives. This has to be the funniest part of the whole night - Gibbs is driving...the way Gibbs drives. McGee is flipping out and not listening as Gibbs is talking about the case. He manages to tell his theory: Ritt Everett killed Greg, and then in order to make it look like an accident, set the cabin fire. But about the helo...so they made crop circles and came up with the alien story. Gibbs praises him; McGee still looks horrified as they barely swerve around another semi-truck.

When they arrive, Gibbs heads into the trailer where Kate and Daphne are; Daphne opens up to Kate. Turns out Daphne and Greg Sikes were from opposite sides of the feud, which is why they killed him. Newell was seeking revenge, but NCIS catches him in time. Gibbs tells him to give himself up - he won't be a Marine any longer, but his brother's girlfriend and his unborn nephew need him.

Aw...Tony tries to be sweet! He sends Kate a beautiful bouquet of flowers as an apology, and she's as pleased as can be. They're even from her favorite florist - "How'd you know?" Tony chalks it up to a lucky guess, and then Gibbs pops his bubble: "He went through your purse and got the phone number off your PDA." He's chuckling as he sits down. Tony looks scared.

He better. That evil eye Kate is sending him...she is going to KILL him. Man, Tony, she already reamed you once for going through her purse!
