1.14: "The Good Samaritan"

by Sammie

Kate is trying to find an emergency contact - has to be someone in town. Tony points to himself, and Kate is hesitant...he keeps pushing, and she finally says fine...until he makes a big deal out of it. Then she wants to ask Abby - who shows up acting weird - and then Gibbs, but he shows up with two cups of coffee, and that freaks Kate.

Comdr. Julius, found killed execution style in Grayson County. Gibbs and the sheriff squabble over jurisdiction (despite how cute the female sheriff finds him), and finally she offers a deal: "Well, I'll tell you what. I'll handle the local investigation. You can have custody of the physical evidence for forensic purposes, and do the on-base investigation. But any prosecution will take place in Grayson County, everything runs through me, no exceptions, and I get full credit. It's an election year." So it's settled.

Julius got a flat, pulled over to fix it. Someone came long and robbed him and killed him - even took his wallet and clothes and watch. (Hm. That wasn't the teaser scene.) No exit wound, and hands were bound AFTER death, not before. Crime scene is clean as a whistle.

Charlie (Charlene Dupray) hits on Gibbs...OPENLY. It's funny - Gibbs is almost flustered. He gives her his card, and she wants to know how to reach him after hours. "Uh, they can find me." Haha...Gibbs flustered is funny.

Ducky and Gerald are talking about "dum-dum bullets" while talking about the comdr.

DUCKY. Well, in the late 1890s the British military developed them in India at the Dum-Dum Arsenal. Yes, their use in warfare was banned at the first international peace conference in 1899 at The Hague.
GERALD. I actually find that interesting.
DUCKY. As opposed to what?

Kate and Tony go to look through Julius' house...Kate is unimpressed by Julius' decorator. They discover he collects LUNCHBOXES, and Kate is even more unimpressed. He buys and sells lunchboxes on . There's a "Quantum Leap" Box, and a "Magnum, P.I." box which Tony snatches off the shelf to look at. Maybe, they speculate, it was a lunchbox deal gone wrong. That would be a hilarious episode - investigating a lunchbox scam gone wrong.

Oops. Second murder - of a civilian employee at Oceana.

Casey and Denise? Huh?

Gibbs goes down to talk to Abby about the wheel from Julius' car - it's quite inflatable - not flat, as they thought.

ABBY: Is that a guess, or do you actually know where I'm going this?
GIBBS: What do you think?
ABBY: Well, I don't know, that's why I asked you.
GIBBS: Why don't you just tell me?
ABBY: So you don't know.
GIBBS: I want to make sure you know.
ABBY: Hm.
GIBBS: Hm.
ABBY: We should play poker sometime.
GIBBS: Yeah, we should.

Gibbs goes upstairs just to find that Dupray has arrived - with evidence from the new murder. Why so cooperative? Gibbs.... Haha. She hooks her arm through his and tells him he owes her dinner; Gibbs looks at Kate and Tony, who quickly pretend like they're occupied. Gibbs takes her to the cafeteria. (Really, now - if Gibbs doesn't date much, it's really his own fault. It's not his face getting in the way. ;-) ) When he returns, Kate and Tony are grinning at him in amusement.

They discuss the killer - and the sheriff has built a profile. (Turns out it's entirely wrong, but hey.) Wonder why Kate didn't build one herself.

Lt. James Seager is the third victim, an aviator. This time, he was killed, then dumped then moved again, and the killing time isn't right. They think it's a copycat murder. Gibbs is sure it's a woman, now - it's a hands off killing and the crime scene is clean...guys don't do either. Why would a guy pull over in the middle of the night? Damsel in distress, points out Kate.

Gibbs talks to Seager's RIO, who says that Jimmy and his wife Laura were going through a terrible divorce. (Bet Gibbs knows about that.) Then Kate and Gibbs are off to interview Seager's wife - who is quite cooperative and tells them she was running errands at the time of the murder. I think she's a little too cooperative...and too calm. She's doin' something.

Abby, though, ties murder #3 (Seager) to murder #1 (Julius) - the bullet is the same, a rare one - Ranger Talon.

Charlie shows up with the bank surveillance video, and there Seager is. "I don't like her shoes," Charlie mutters, and Kate smiles. Gibbs thinks that Seager (the wife) got someone to change the time stamps inside the bank video.

GIBBS: How hard is it for an attractive woman to get a guy to do what she wants?
KATE & CHARLIE: It's easy / Oh, that happens every day.
TONY: Ladies! I think that was a rhetorical question.
Aha. Kate uncovers that Seager's family money was from his grandfather, who made money as the importer of Swiss Army knives. And Laura? Signed a lopsided prenup. She'd get zip - or close to it - in the divorce.

And Abby has found Seager's DNA at the murder site for murder #2. Seems she had to "answer nature's call" while she waited for a victim. Seager protests - she gave two urine samples at Oceana - maybe someone used those. Her doctor is a military officer, Margaret Green - against whom Lt. Seager filed a sexual harassment claim. But she was in Washington, DC.

Two great suspects: Comdr. Green, because of Lt. Seager's complaint, which would tank her career; Laura Seager, who'd get nothing if the divorce was finalized. Both have witnesses to where they were, but only one has DNA at the crime scene. Kate must have called Records before, because she gets a call and then reports to Gibbs and Tony, "That was Arlene in Records. I think I just got the answer to the mystery."

HIGHLIGHT BETWEEN THE ~ FOR THE END: ~ Laura's got a twin, Linda; they'd have the same DNA. While Laura Seager was at the bank, Linda killed her husband; but Laura (most likely with Linda's help) killed the two others.

Tony says dating twins is fabulous...Kate is unimpressed: "Where do you come up with this stuff?" ~ Charlie comes on the news, and Kate and Tony think NCIS is finally going to get credit...not.
